This is a production which brings back very fond memories (yes - even from 2020). It was my first time working as a Producer alongside Bold's EP Rob and also the first time I worked with super talented director Kate McMullen and DOP Ahmet Hüsseyin. It was such a pleasure collaborating with them both and a process we would go on to repeat several times. Beyond the 'normal' headaches of a short film production, this one had the additional challenge of being shut down due to Covid and recommencing production in summer 2020. The experience taught me that no matter how much you can plan in advance, things can change very quickly due to circumstances outside your control. Kate made the most of the break in production to hone the script and the final product is stronger as a result.
In director Kate McMullen's words: "This is the fully fact-checked St George. People think of him as a white knight on a white horse with a right-wing agenda - but the evidence reveals someone very different. We don't know what colour his horse was, but we do know that George was born in Turkey to a Greek father and Palestinian mother, an immigrant most of his life, persecuted for his 'strange middle Eastern beliefs'. It's an eclectic story that has been hidden behind a false narrative for centuries. In today's climate of fake news and divisive clickbait, the facts matter more than ever. When you dig deeper, you discover common ground. The 'tabloid' St George excluded many - but the facts unite us."
